Sangin' at church (#4)

Today held a big first for me- I sang in "big church" in an ensemble of 6 ladies! I have always been an accompanist, rather than a singer, but enjoy singing in private. I once had "sing a solo in front of a small audience" on my bucket list- but I wrote it in pencil and have since erased it :)
A few years ago, I got the chance to start singing in the choir at Park Hill Baptist. Now I get to have the best of both musical worlds- singing in the choir for early service and then playing piano for a later service at Trinity Fellowship Church.
Several months ago, a friend, Michele, invited me to sing in a ladies' ensemble, singing just for a Sunday School class. Then we "graduated" to singing in a Sunday night service. Today we sang in the morning service! It was Baptist Women emphasis day, and we sang the only song in our repertoire- "Wonderful, Merciful Savior." Love that song!!! Except for a projectile lifesaver... no one embarrassed themselves. Thanks, Michele, for pushing us out of our comfort zone.

PS- upcoming post floating around in my brain has nothing to do with firsts...

Firsts #2 & 3

First Spray Tan--- check! And I would highly recommend Sculpted Tans on JFK. The (very) young little tan sprayer girl was very nice. She explained everything with "Spray Tan for Dummies" details, but with good respect for her "elder" client. And she didn't even flinch or roll her eyes when she saw me in my tanning attire. I think my new tan makes my teeth look whiter and my flab a little tighter!

#3- tonight I had birthday dinner with 4 friends at Chili's. I've done that before, but tonight I was the FIRST one to arrive!!! Those who know me well know that is highly unlikely. But I was determined! I need fodder for my blog, after all...

I give the spray tan experience 2 thumbs up. Being early for a date- still don't really see the appeal in that, but I will keep trying to be more respectful of my friends' time and try to be on time at least.

Freshman at 55

Don't worry- I am NOT entering any institute of higher learning. I'm just testing the waters of the blogging world. On the auspicious occasion of my 55th birthday, I had great and mighty plans. I was going to check "ride on a Segway" off my bucket list, as well as "go to a tanning booth." Sadly, the Segway rental store in Little Rock is no longer in business, and the Sculpted Tans (to which I have a paid-for Groupon in hand) will not answer the phone. I'm not giving up on either adventure, though!

So, Plan B, I decided to start a blog. My goal is to have 55 firsts in my life this year. Shouldn't be too difficult, since I have led a very sheltered life. I've always been cheap and a chicken! In my advanced age... I have a few more pennies in my pocket and I'm getting a little more adventurous.

Let me know if you have suggestions for fun activities I should try.
